For Hotbird viewers in Europe, Western Asia, and North Africa
(not North America, Central America and the Caribbean)
MOU has reports that our older UEC model 660 receivers may have trouble receiving the MOU broadcast on Hotbird. This is due to the fact that the software of the UEC receivers is no longer as compatible with the newer, enhanced satellite technology. We are working to modify the satellite signal so that UEC receivers will continue to receive the signal normally. However, as time goes by it may become more difficult to receive the signal on the UEC receiver. Viewers have the option to purchase another receiver locally that will allow you to have better reception now and in the future. Presently it is possible to purchase such receivers at a cost of 50-100 Euros, depending on the receiver and the country you live in.
The receiver you purchase should be a low cost free to air model (no encryption). The main criterion is that it can handle the low bit rate of the MOU signal. In order to determine whether it can handle the low bit rate, we have three recommendations:
- Try to purchase a receiver model that has already been proven to work on MOU by someone else at your center.
- See if the satellite shop will allow you to watch the receiver for 5 minutes while tuned to MOU before you purchase it. You should make sure the video and audio does not freeze during those 5 minutes.
- If you purchase the receiver from the Internet or the shop does not allow you to watch it first, see if there is a return privilege so you can check the receiver at home for a few days.
We would also like to remind viewers that the Maharishi Channel by Hotbird Satellite is a subscription channel. Please contact your local Maharishi Open University coordinator for information on how to make the monthly subscription payment via the following web page: http://www.mou.org/view/satellite/intl/index.html.
If you have any other technical questions, please send an email to mou.tech.support@Maharishi.net.
